Biography

O formed in 1999 out of a potent mix of luck, talent, and boredom. The three-piece Sydney band was a side-project for siblings Nathan, Anthony and Molly, who were all paying their way through university. They shared a passion for music and would play gigs at friends' parties and small local venues before they were spotted by major producer Ivan Followill.

In 2000 they signed with Broken Records and spent two solid weeks recording their debut, the Trendy EP . With influences as varied as Sigur Ros, 70s krautrock, and Pink Floyd, O's sound was fresh and unhinged. After the success of their EP, O jumped straight back into the studio to record their debut album, Play Group. In early 2002 O went on their first Australian tour to promote Play Group.. Their experimental electronic soundscapes offered a unique experience in a thirsty Australian market. They received ARIAs for 'Best Group' and 'Single of the Year' at the 2005 awards.

Thanks to a growing and devoted fanbase, as well as huge support from JJJ and community radio stations nationwide, Play Group. went double platinum. Despite their enviable rise to fame, O decided to take a break in 2003. Anthony wanted to finish his degree, whilst Nathan and Molly longed to momentarily escape the madness and backpack around South America. Needless to say, the future looks bright for this inspired trio.
